So initially, I was going to document both food that I ate and the amount of exercise I got. Unfortunately, I didn't go to the gym once this week - so my "exercise" just involved walking around campus, the occasional trot to the bus, and some half-assed push ups. Oh well. More on this in the "why did I eat that crap" break down...
I should mention: I am blogging this at 3:40 am, waiting for a program that I've been writing all week to FINALLY. F*CKIN'.WORK. And I have an organic chemistry exam on Monday that I have done zero studying for because, of course, I've been writing this program every waking hour that I haven't been watching 30 rock or ... well, you'll see, in the "why I drank this booze" break down. Oh, and most of my hours have been waking - because sleep is the first thing I sacrifice when I have a lot of work to do - long before my precious 30 rock.

8:30 am, at home - a few bites of yogurt, because I thought I might go to the gym today and eating something is better than nothing, especially a few hours before a run. I didn't actually go.
9:00 am, meeting before our class! - 1 cup of coffee. Because this is way way earlier than I would normally wake up.
12:00 pm - Tomato bisque soup w/ a pop over @ purple onion - because instead of going to class, I rewrote my program from hell for the first time.
3:30 pm in transit to the computer science building - small mocha. Was running out of steam.
9:30 pm at a mexican restaraunt in st paul- chorizo enchiladas with my dad. I had class straight until 8:30 and was starving at this point.
11:00 pm at home- 1 cup of coffee. Because I am obsessive and I needed to get my program working.
11:10 pm at home- 1/2 a cup of chocolate chips... oral fixation? I don't know.
12:00 pm at home- another cup of coffee. Perhaps because I am insane. Still working on that program.

3:00 pm at home- worst peanut butter and jelly sandwich ever. Still programming
5:30 pm in global studies class - yogurt.
9:30 pm - Tracy's Saloon - cheeseburger and fries... because to get out of the house, I met my dad at the bar.
9:30 pm - 1/4 of a beer, 1/3rd of a mixed drink. Because I was sipping off of my dad's drinks.
10:20 pm -at home, coffee again. Still programming. Was working until 4 am, had a breakthrough at around 3:45 and was finally satisfied enough to sleep.

8:30 am at home - measly amount of yogurt.
9:30 am in our class- coffee, and a cherry coke. Because I had to give a presentation on Cyborg Feminism and I was so tired I doubted my ability to spell my own name.
11:30 am at purple onion- pop over and chicken wild rice soup. Back at purple onion working on my program, which was supposed to be done by midnight of this night and I still wasn't near finished.
6:30 pm - after going home and crashing for 5 hours, and missing a class - yogurt.
9:00 pm - 1 beef taco, at the bar with my dad again.
9:00 pm - 1 summit maibach, because I got an email that said the deadline for my program was extended till saturday night.
10:00 pm - at home - more coffee. Still wanted to finish my program.
10:50 pm - at home, 1 cup of white rice with soy sauce. Wasn't so much hungry as bored.
12:00 am - 2 whiskey sours. Because my ex boyfriend called and wanted to play catch up at Psycho Suzies.
1:00 am. Psycho Suzies still, Sausage wrapped in bacon - because I am a terrible, terrible jew.
1:00 am. "Free Tilly" - because it had a hilarious name. But boy was it ever a terrible idea to drink this! I fell on my way into my apartment for the first time all winter.

5:30 pm - more coffee. ... wow. at home
7:10 pm - an apple, snacking before dinner
8:00 pm - Tracy's Saloon, a pork sandwich w/ fries and a beer, at the bar again. With my dad.
10:00 pm - cake for my friend of the family's birthday, at my cousins house.
11:00 pm - a margarita. Because my cousin made a pitcher of margaritas for the family so that we could tolerate each other.
1:00 am - more coffee. Because I decided to whip out my programming assignment again at the tail end of a drunken family card game. And in fact, that is what I am still working on, right now.

I counted my calories because I thought I'd hit two birds with one stone - I wanted to see how much booze and junk I am ingesting, and I wanted to see how much of my daily intake that ends up comprising. I really could do better. Also, most weeks I would go to the gym and run off 300 - 600 calories, 1- 3 times in the week. And when I wasn't counting my calories, I was eating a lot more junk! The fact that I had to write it down caused a lot of stuff to lose its appeal (dessert after every meal, finishing all of my french fries, drinking beer every night..)
yee gads! I don't think I'm very healthy.

How interesting that you might think that, just because you don't work off every calorie that you consume, you are unhealthy. Your eating patterns are those of a person that has one hell of a schedule and is close with her family (especially when there are Margaritas involved). If I were to comment (and because I HAVE to comment), I would say that your sleep patterns are more of a concern than anything you eat. I am a serious coffee junky - read my blog entry if you doubt this, I can have a couple of strong cups of coffee, after 7pm, and still be in bed by midnight; however, I am always up by 730 or 0800. I value sleep as much as I value any major thing in my life - and sleep IS a major part of our lives despite the many pressures to give it up in favor of being more productive - I assert that quality of productivity trumps quantity ANY DAY!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI believe sincerely that circadian rhythms are more closely tied to our overall health than the I/O differential of an extra 300-500 calories. The other VERY notable absence, which I hope is merely unintentional rather than an accurate picture is WATER!! Where the hell is the water in your 72 hours? Nearly two-thirds of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Chronic dehydration is closely linked to so many really, really bad diseases and conditions that I don't even want to get started. I'm hoping that water is such a major part of your every day intake that you didn't even think to include it in your report. I know that I completely forgot to include my H2O on some of my days, even though I drink at least two liters per day (at a minimum).
Life is short - burn that candle while you're young!! Great blog entry Estheria!
Oh! You're right - I totally forgot to include water. I do drink quite a bit of water, most days.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, my sleep schedule / drinking excessively was really what I meant by unhealthy. I am starting to really wear myself down... spring break will help, I hope.
i hope you got that damn program to work. seriously. sounds like it may have required a margarita....you should come get a shiatsu! ;)
ReplyDeleteBuying drinks with silly names at Psycho Suzi's is my vice. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteMehhhh...virtues are overrated. However, shiatsu sounds pretty friggin' awesome.
