black box

One of the things im taking away from this class is the idea of the black box. how things such as atoms have alawys existed, but were never accepted until they were proven toe exist. what else in the world fits into this claim? from this claim i am reminded of a certain Simpsons episode where Mr. Burnes' father fired an employee for having 4 atoms on him. it kinda shows the level of thinking most people display in a certain period of time, and how we fear what we do not know.

  1. I was debating on writing that I would take the black box away with me but I didn't so I'm glad you did. I think its amazing how many "black boxes" there still are. Almost everything that has an unknown attached to it is a black box until it becomes an accepted theory because of science. Personally, I think its a circulating reference because science is itself a black box, wouldn't you agree?

  2. I'm glad that you took the stance that things did in fact exist before we discover them. I didn't like in class when people would say that things did not exist just because people did not discover them, i think that puts people on a much higher pedestal than we deserve. As if somehow we "determine" what reality is. Of course there were atoms before people, they will be there after people as well. i know that force always has and always will equal mass times acceleration. Any who i think that is enough ranting for now. Good semester.

  3. The black box is a subject that seemed to be mentioned in almost every class. Partly because I think everyone got a bit cheeky and just liked to refer back to it at any point when we were confused about something (which happened quite often), but also because so many topics that we discussed contained issues that were so complex and confusing, sometimes the best way to understand it was to admit that said topic was just a giant black box.

Even though the idea of wanting to know all the inner-workings, and everything there is to know about everything sounds kinda cool, there is a sense of beauty in not knowing. Not being ignorant or anything, but just simply not being able to know for a fact all there is to know about a certain subject. It brings about a kind of mystery to life, and that's what makes it fun, I think.

Think of how bored and hopped up on ADHD pills we'd all be if we'd learned all there is to know.
